Our story
About Rise Beyond Height
Rise Beyond Height was founded from a deeply personal journey. As a person with dwarfism who grew up navigating environments where difference was often misunderstood, our founder, Warsame, experienced firsthand the challenges of stigma, exclusion, and underestimation. Yet those experiences also shaped a powerful belief: that physical height should never determine human potential.
Throughout his life, Warsame refused to allow society’s expectations to define him. Instead, he pursued education, leadership, and community engagement with confidence and determination. His journey eventually led him to become an advocate for inclusion and empowerment, particularly for individuals who often remain unseen or misunderstood.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Warsame volunteered his time tutoring students for free in his community, believing that education is one of the most powerful tools for empowerment. These early acts of service strengthened his commitment to community impact and reinforced his belief that meaningful change begins with consistent efforts.
The idea for Rise Beyond Height emerged from this personal experience and commitment to service. Warsame recognized that many persons with dwarfism, especially in underserved communities such as refugee camps and developing regions, face significant barriers to education, employment, and social inclusion.
Today, Rise Beyond Height exists to advocate for dignity, expand opportunities, and amplify the voices of persons with dwarfism. Through awareness, education, and community programs, we work to challenge harmful stereotypes and build a world where people are valued for their abilities rather than judged by their physical differences.
The direct approach
The challenge we must address
In communities around the world, persons with dwarfism face persistent barriers to full participation in society. These challenges include:
- Stigma and Discrimination: Harmful stereotypes and misconceptions lead to social exclusion, bullying, and unequal treatment.
- Limited Access to Education: Many children with dwarfism lack accommodations and support, leading to higher dropout rates.
- Empowerment: We equip individuals with the tools, confidence, and opportunities needed to reach their full potential and become leaders.
- Inadequate Healthcare: Medical needs related to dwarfism are frequently misunderstood or neglected.
- Social Isolation: Limited representation and awareness leave many individuals and families feeling alone.
In underserved communities, including refugee camps and developing regions, these challenges are magnified by poverty, lack of infrastructure, and limited disability services.
Our vision
A world where no person is limited by their height, and where individuals with dwarfism live with dignity, equal opportunity, and full inclusion in their communities.
Our mission
We empower people with dwarfism through advocacy, education, and community support. Our mission is to dismantle stigma and foster inclusion, ensuring every individual can reach their full potential and participate fully in society.
Why this work matters
Every person deserves to be seen, heard, and valued for who they are. When individuals with dwarfism are excluded from education, employment, and community life, we all lose the contributions they could make. When stereotypes go unchallenged, they are passed to the next generation. When barriers remain, potential goes unrealized.
But when we advocate for inclusion, when we provide support, and when we amplify voices, we create ripples of change that extend far beyond any single individual. We build communities that are stronger, richer, and more just for everyone.
This is why Rise Beyond Height exists. This is why our work matters.
